AOK – ‘the health insurance provider’ – is one of the providers of statutory health insurance. If you fall ill, you can rest assured that the cover we provide is extensive. As a general rule, AOK will cover the costs for any treatment deemed to be a medical requirement. We pay for:
- Treatment by doctors and dentists
- Hospital treatment
- Therapy, such as massages, physiotherapy, speech and occupational therapy
- Assistive equipment, such as wheelchairs and walking aids
Some services will incur additional charges. This is the case for people insured by any statutory health insurance provider. Additional charges come to: between EUR 5 and 10 for medication and first aid supplies, up to EUR 10 per month for assistive aids, and EUR 10 per day for hospital treatment. Almost all additional charges are waived for children and teenagers. Pregnant women do not have to pay extra for any services that are provided in connection with their pregnancy.
Services incurring additional charges
As a general rule, AOK covers the costs for any treatment deemed to be an advisable medical requirement by the German Joint Federal Committee (G-BA). Beyond that, your doctor may offer you treatment that does not fall under the scope of statutory health insurance. You will have to pay for these ‘individual healthcare services’ yourself if you want to take advantage of them. These include:
- additional screening
- additional ultrasound scans
- additional blood tests
- additional precautionary measures
- cosmetic procedures
- natural therapies
Please get in touch with us here at AOK before starting any treatment. We will be happy to advise you on any possible alternative options.
